Meet The Betts

Eric & Gay Betts

It looks like it is our turn to do the honors in the “Meet the Chapter Members” section.   It has been a while since we have done this so here goes nothing!

I was just a young girl of 16 when I met this long haired ( Yes, I said LONG haired) young man in my sophomore year of high school.  He was a junior. We met in band. He played the  baritone and I played the flute.  He had originally come from Illinois to Mountain Home in 1972 and I had been in West Helena, Arkansas before moving here in 1974.  We met and started dating and were married in 1977.  Eric worked at Bass Cat Boats and I worked at Wal-Mart until in 1978 when Eric joined the Army.

We spent the next 20 years going from Georgia to Germany, then to Louisiana to Hawaii.  Then it was back to Louisiana for a year and then on to the place Eric retired from, Ft. Hood, Texas, after 5 years there.  In 1996, while in Texas, we were looking for a new car for me. I knew he had always wanted a Gold Wing and decided to give the go ahead around Father’s Day.  There was one stipulation, he had to keep my car running while we were paying for the bike.  Well, THAT put a big smile on his face!!!

We finally wound up buying our Pearl Blue 1996 Wing in Austin.  The day we picked it up Eric rode it back home and was baptized with a rain shower along the way. He was so nervous being on the bike for the first time and riding in the rain.  I was driving the car behind him and felt sorry for him, but we did make it home.  After that we rode almost every weekend and rode with a group out of Austin a few times.

After moving back here in July of 1998 we joined Chapter  P in November of that same year.  Bob Burris was heading things up then.  Ezra Roberts was the Assistant Chapter Director and became Director in January of 1999.  He asked Eric and I to become his Assistant Directors and we agreed. Eric and I became Directors from January 2002 until January 2004 when Larry and Pat took over the reigns.  I was asked to become Treasurer by Larry and Pat Seuling and have been Treasurer since that time at the request of Roy and Pam Behrens and now Mike and Pat Williams.  I am humbled at the confidence and trust they have all placed in me.

This year promises to be a great one for Chapter P and I hope you all join in on the fun every once in a while at least!  I know we have really enjoyed being members of this group of crazy, wacky, fun loving and caring people we call the “White River Riders“.
