Alice and I moved
to the
MountainHome area in 2000 from Batesvill where we had lived for 24
years. Originally, I am from east Tennessee (Knoxville area) and
Alice is from Clinton, Indiana. We both have been members of
GWRRA since 2001. We are retired now and spend our time
travelling on the bike and fishing the lakes and rivers. We have
been married for 37 years and have a son, Paul. He and his wife
Kristy and their two sons live in Bergman, Arkansas.
My first bike was
a 1964 Honda 305
Super Hawk. It was my only transportation and I rode it over
48,000 miles in 3 years. I didn't ride for a long time, then in
1999 I bought a used Yamaha Virago. Since then we have had 3
Goldwings. Our current bike is a 2004 GL 1800 and a Bushtec
trailer.
We have enjoyed
trips to Spearfish,
South Dakota (3,425 miles), Honda Hoot (3 times) and the Honda
Homecoming twice. In 2007 we took the long way home from 'The
Hoot' via Key West, Florida. It was a good trip. We were
gone 10 days and rode 3511 miles.
We rode old
Route 66 from
Springfield, Missouri to Barstow, California in 2006 (5,100 miles) in
19 days. We decided then to ride the entire Route 66 from
Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California in 2007. It was a
great trip and we were on the road for 22 days and rode 6,035
miles. Another very good trip was the Natchez Trace Parkway from
Natches, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee.
This year
we plan to ride the Blue
Ridge Parkway and travel several states in the northeast. We hope
to ride all of the lower 48 states some day. So far we have
ridden 27. We normally ride 10,000 to 12,000 miles a year but
last year we rode almost 19,000 with the Route 66 trip.
The GWRRA safety
program is very
good and we have taken courses at the Rider's Ed Weekend in Morrilton
for the past 3 years.
